What to see and do in Jejo-do Island, South Korea

Jeju-do is to South Korea what Hawaii is to the USA. It is an island which has a lot to offer in terms active activities, history, nature excursions and wonderful beaches.

It is defiantly as must-do if you are visiting South Korea!

1. Climb Mt. Hallasan

Mt. Hallasan is located in the middel of the Island and is called the heart of Jeju. The top of the mountain is covered in snow during the wintertime and makes the trail up to the top look like a winter wonderland. Remember to bring warm clothing and wear hiking boots as the trails are quite slippery when covered in snow(!)  We walked up Seongpanak trail (9.6 km) which was a beautiful route to the mountain.

2. Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak

Walking up to this peak will give an incredible view of the city below and the ocean. Do it early in the morning to see the sunrise! It tasks around 20 min. to make it to the top. You will also be able to see the female free divers performance at the bottom of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak.

3. Walk the Jeju Olle trails

If you are not hiking Hallasan you can walk the trails of Olle which is more or less a walkway next to the sea and is covering the entire Island. You can follow different trails.

4. Visit Jeju Loveland

An erotic outdoor theme park created by students which features sexy and comic sculptures. It is worth a visit!

5. Beaches

I did not try any of the beaches as I went in March (winter time) but even at that time the beaches had amazingly white sand and an azure blue sea. The most recommend beach is: Hyupjae (West side)

6. Jusangjeolli Cliff

This dramatic cliff is created of lava stone with a very vl and brutal look!

7. Taste black skinned pig (heukdwaeji)

Black pork is a traditional dish at Jeju and does actually taste pretty great!

8. Watch female free divers catching fish from the sea

These women are know for free diving and catching different type of fish, clams or octopus without any oxygen.

9. Manjanggul Cave

Is the largest lava tunnel in the world and is app. 7 km long. You will be able to walk the first 1 km underground which give a good indication of how powerful lava can be.

If you have more time to spend on Jeju island, here are some additional activities you can do: see the Jeongbang waterfall in Seogwipo, temple stay at Yakcheonsa, Udo Island and visit the Sagye-ri cave (west side).
